What are back links?
A back link is a link from any other website, blog or internet based system that links back to your website. Google uses quality back links to determine ‘page rank’. The higher your page rank the higher your website will come up on the major search engines. Although back links are not the only item needed for good placement on Google, its definitely one of the most important. In essence the more back links you have the better.
Qualified Back links vs. Unqualified
As important as the number of back links is, the quality is even more important. For example the site linking to you should be qualified or “real” websites. Google frowns upon links that come from linking sites or text link pages only. Google wants to make sure that the links are from sites that have a strong page rank and quality content. For example a site with 1000 links from sites with a page rank of 5 or better will do better in the search engines than a website with 2000 links from websites that have a page rank of 1 or less. All links are ultimately positive, but the sheer number of back links is not as important as them being quality links.
How to generate back links
Write articles. Writing articles of interest is a great way to generate back links. Once an article is written submit it to the major article submission forums such as ezinearticles.com, articlebiz.com. Once these articles are submitted, other sites who need content will pick them up and publish them. As long as there is a link in the article to your website, you will receive a back link the next time Google indexes the site.
